Wow, what a month that’s been…
It actually seems like forever since we left the Gold Coast to head for Perth via Waikerie. We cruised out of Beenleigh after a quick oil change on the ‘ole girl and since we were in the area, Bianca wanted to head for Queenslander Aviaries to get some supplies for @burdinabus
So through residential Redbank Plains we went on the way out towards Towoomba and found a beaut little free RV stop at Gatton, within walking distance of the local grocery shops, pubs, Op-shops and cafe’s. Stayed a couple nights then followed the Newell highway with notable stops at Hickeys Falls, The Roadkill Sculpture at Forbes, and Mirrool, then onto the Sturt Highway across to Waikerie to spend a couple of weeks with our daughter there.
It was great to also get a visit from our Son, up from Adelaide for an overnighter with his girlfriend. At that stage we were still undecided how long we would stay in Waikerie and whether we’d venture down to Adelaide to see some friends or not. So he made the trek up so could worry less about getting down there to see him and consider more how much help our daughter needed and then thinking about getting to Perth.
We’ve been feeling the call to head to Perth for a few reasons, the two major ones being that Chris’ Mum and Michelle’s Dad both have reasonably serious health issues, plus we’re keen to catch up with some ole mates ?
We spent a couple of weeks at Waikerie ticking off a few to-do’s, like installing our new awning canvass on the bus and sorting out a couple of jobs at our daughters place, then packed up again and hit the road for WA, first stop at Spalding for a few nights, then on a whim we decided we needed to see the ocean so headed for Port Brighton – a great little privately owned RV camp 2kms from town ?
After a few days there too we had overnighters at Kimba, then on Baird Bay (near Streaky Bay) caught up with some friends we hadn’t seen for years, then into the RV park in Streaky for a couple of nights before making our way to a roadside bush-spot to rest for a few days and catch up on a couple more jobs, like applying linseed oil to our new half wine barrel bathtub. Michelle even took it for a trial run outside while we made sure it would hold water.
We stayed a few days, then headed into town (Ceduna) to stock up on food, fuel, water and just also happened to take Bi to get her learners at the Police Station there ??
Time to hit the road across the Nullarbor and we’ll see how far we can get in another month ????
